When I am not doing school work or attending class, I work for an ambulance service. I found this painting while waiting in a local emergency department to take a patient to a larger healthcare facility. Looking at this painting, I instantly saw a nurse, in personal protective equipment, holding the world. To me, it was saying that nurses protect, comfort, and take care of the world no matter what is happening in the world at the time. It shows that nurses are going to answer the call, no matter what the call is, to help out others when they need it most. Nurses put their own opinions, beliefs, feelings of a situation, and sometimes even health to the side to help those that are in need. I believe nursing is an art because of all the different roles that nurses have to fill while doing just one job. Being able to balance all of their roles while still doing their jobs efficiently, shows me that nursing is an art form.
What a great painting John! I agree with your interpretation of the painting. How the world has changed; you immediately saw the nurse in PPE, I saw an OR nurse, caring for the patient while the rest of the world sleeps. Now in the world of the pandemic, I can understand how you immediately saw the PPE. You are correct that nurses need to balance all of their roles while doing the job and that is an art form most assuredly.
I really enjoy this painting that you posted, the emotion that you see on the nurses face shows that they appear relaxed and has a caring undertone to them. It is also very relevant to the world’s current situation with full PPE not really getting to see what the person looks like under the mask, hair cover, gown and gloves so all you see is the eyes and their body disposition. These two factors can be telling and we need to be aware how we appear to our future patients so that we don’t instill fear or bad feelings that we may be feeling. Great job on your post!
