After completing all ethics assignments: After completing the ethics assignments, my understanding of the nurse’s contribution to ethical conduct of research and implementation of research findings has stayed the same. A nurse needs to protect their patients, do no harm to them, and be honest with them about what is going to happen with the research or their care. I believe it is important for nurses to know the historical evolution and principles of research ethics so that they do not repeat the mistakes that were made in the past. If nurses know what happened, why it was changed, and how it benefits the patient, I believe they will be able to understand why the practices of today are the way they are and will be more likely to follow them or protect their patients. My achievement of the course objectives has contributed to my capacity to participate in the ethical conduct of research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice initiatives by helping me understand why research is done and how it is done correctly. I now understand why research is done and why we have the practices we do. It is all to protect the patients or participants and to make sure they get the care and respect they need during the research or implementation of research.
