For my nursing leadership interview, I chose this specific person to interview because of the formal role they played as the director of the Emergency Department. When I was working as a phlebotomist and an EMT in my hometown, I would always see her in the Emergency Department helping out her staff with whatever they needed. When she was working, I saw that she was organized, always willing to help out, was willing to listen to ideas, caring, and very knowledgeable about what needed to happen. I think that these qualities made her a great leader and that she would be a great person to talk to about what it is like to be a nursing leader.
Where her role as the director of the Emergency Department was formal, it is different from an informal role because of her title, the way that she was appointed to this position, and the way that she had official authority in the department. If it was an informal role, she would not have been officially appointed and she would not have official authority from the hospital to run the Emergency Department.
When conducting this interview, I am very interested to learn how she felt going into this role, if she was respected by the physicians where she was a nurse, if she liked the position, what her biggest take away was from the position, if she has any tips for being a good leader, and how she handled the transition of going to a leadership position. I am also interested to learn anything that she is willing to share about her experience as a leader. I think her insight will be beneficial to hear and will help me in my future career if I ever take on a leadership role.
So awesome John! She sounds like an inspiring leader and a powerful person.
