Looking forward to graduation, licensure, and my first job, I am most excited about being able to help people, while also being able to see many interesting cases. I am also excited about being out of school for a little while. I have been in school for 5 out of the last 6 years and I am excited to be able to take a step away from the classroom. However, I will miss all of the amazing students, professors, and healthcare professionals I have met during my time in school, especially this nursing program.
Once I have graduated, received my license, and obtained my first job, I plan on celebrating by taking a week long break at my family’s camp. I plan on doing nothing besides sitting by the water, reading a good book, and having campfires during the evenings. This will be amazing and I will not want it to end, but when it does and I have to return to the real world, I will be looking forward to working with patients. However, I am anxious about obtaining my first nursing position and starting my career as a nurse. This is mostly due to the fact that we have had limited opportunities to gain hands-on experience during the pandemic. I know that I will have good people around me to help along the way, but I am anxious that I will not know what I am doing when I first get to the unit.
I will prepare and plan my weekly studies to stay focused and on track by keeping track of all my assignments, tests, clinical days, etc. in a planner so that I am organized and so that I can plan my days accordingly. I plan to study adult health 3 for 2-3 hours a day, before I go to bed at night so it is retained a little better and so I can get a better understanding of the material. I will do this at night because while I was doing the ATI Nurse Logic 2.0 Modules, I was thinking about when I retain the information most. I also learned that I need to make sure to fully read assessment questions, look for keywords and phrases in the questions, and mark the answers I think are correct or that I know are wrong. These three tips will help me better understand what a question is asking and help me narrow down which answers are correct.
John, you have a solid plan for success. Your plans for a week or R & R at camp will be great for the body, mind, and spirit!
